Why Jump out of a Perfectly Good Airplane?

It’s hard to imagine that someone could justify jumping from a perfectly good airplane and hurtling through the sky with nothing but a parachute to rely on! It seems illogical at first glance, but when you look closer, you learn that the thrill of skydiving is unparalleled, the rewards you get last a lifetime, and skydiving safety considerations are airtight. This is what motivates millions of people to take the leap! Let’s dive deeper into the why behind the compulsion to fly.

The Skydiving Thrill

Imagine a time in your life when you were carefree and without the stressors of responsibility, much like you were as a child. When you weren’t bogged down with all the doing. You didn’t care about bills, e-mails, deadlines, appointments, groceries, etc.

Skydiving allows you to experience that same freeing feeling. You can escape, focusing completely on the present moment without any distractions. When you’re in the sky, nothing else matters. You have permission to live in the here and now and enjoy just … being.

The moment you step out of an airplane is breathtaking; awe-inspiring. Gravity takes control. The wind rushes past you as you plunge towards Earth and finally let go of the fear you’ve been harboring. You understand there’s no turning back – and you surrender, allowing pure enjoyment to take over! What else is there to do? It’s happening!

It’s this moment of total freedom and complete release that makes skydiving so addictive! For many, the heart-pounding thrill of freefall is incomparable. The surge of adrenaline, the smell of the exhaust, the hum of the wind, and the panoramic views … it’s all what makes the skydiving experience so incredibly special. It is a unique rush that you cannot find anywhere else.

The Decision to Skydive

What motivates individuals to want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? Each individual experience is different and skydivers jump for all sorts of reasons. If you can believe it, it’s actually what happens internally that is even more incredible than what you experience externally on your skydive.

Skydiving isn’t just about the thrill and adrenaline rush of throwing yourself out of an airplane. It’s about the transformative experience, empowerment, and self-confidence you gain while on your skydiving journey. The overwhelming sense of freedom you feel while freeflying through the infinite skies is straight-up life-changing. Going from the rush of freefall to utter peace and tranquility under the parachute as you drift slowly back down to Earth … it’s magnificent. And to think that all of this is possible from a bag of masterfully engineered pieces of nylon and string! It has a way of really inspiring you and changing your perspective in more ways than one.

The decision to make that leap, both literally and figuratively, often stems from a desire to embrace adventure, conquer fears, and experience profound personal growth. Skydiving represents the ultimate challenge for those seeking an opportunity to step out of their comfort zone, embrace the unknown, and conquer fears. Whether it is conquering the fear of heights, the fear of the unknown, or the fear of letting go; fear is an enormous motivator for those who are looking to jump.

The skydiving experience is a powerful metaphor for life itself; it teaches you to trust the process, relinquish control, and have faith that everything will work out. The act of freefalling alone is symbolic to the risks we take every day in our lives, and skydiving is the ultimate way to confront those fears head-on.

Is Skydiving Worth It?

The perceived risk associated with skydiving is undeniable. After all, you are jumping from an airplane, 8,000 – 10,000 feet in the air – of course skydiving comes with inherent danger.

In skydiving, the risks are very carefully calculated. There are numerous safety measures and protocols that are mandated by the United States Parachute Association (USPA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). With modern equipment, rigorous training, and highly skilled instructors, the actual risks of skydiving have been significantly reduced. The feeling of conquering your fears, achieving an unforgettable adventure, and living a life of abundance is a priceless reward for many! So, is skydiving worth it? We definitely think so – but you will have to just decide for yourself!

Skydiving Safety

Having access to better technology in order to make major improvements to skydiving equipment and creating advancements in skydiver training programs have made skydiving safer than ever before, and we all work collectively to find new ways to improve safety each year. According to the USPA, tandem skydiving has a safety rate with one fatality per 500,000 jumps on average over the past 10 years (0.0002 in 1,000 tandem jumps). Which means you are more likely to die from a dog bite or bee sting than you are skydiving!

Safety is absolutely the top priority for any skydiving operation, and Long Island Skydiving Center is no exception. We take our commitment to safety very seriously and pride ourselves on ensuring that every jump is as comfortable as it is thrilling. We only hire the best and most experienced skydiving instructors who go through rigorous training to handle various situations – we put our guests in good hands! All of our skydiving equipment is thoroughly inspected and maintained by certified parachute riggers.
