Long Island Skydiving Center Posted by: Long Island Skydiving Center 6 years ago

There’s a game we’re really good at the Long Island Skydiving Center: Predicting the first thing that’ll pop out of a new skydiver’s mouth after s/he lands from that first tandem skydive. We’ve been at this for a really long time, after all, and almost everyone says the same thing. Fun, huh?

1. “I WISH I’D DONE THIS SOONER!”

It is incredible how often this one comes up. We’d reckon that almost half of our first-time jumpers say it! Why? Because so many people wait to make their first jump. The reasons generally include finances, time constraints and all sorts of other totally reasonable stuff. But at the end of the day, it’s fear that really gets in the way, right? Once someone has taken up the responsibility to get past that fear and commits to making that skydive, their whole world opens up – and they always wish they hadn’t waited so long to do it. Every time.

2. “IT WAS NOTHING LIKE I’D THOUGHT IT WOULD BE! IT WAS BETTER!”

A lot of people think that a skydive is going to feel like something they recognize in some way: a rollercoaster; a bungee jump; a fairground ride. It turns out to be nothing like any of those things – more exciting, but somehow more satisfying, too.

We’re not just talking about the jump. We’re talking about the full-on experience of skydiving: being outside on a beautiful day; being immersed in a community of happy, adventurous people; learning first-hand about aviation and human flight. It’s not just adrenaline you’ll feel on a skydive; it’s the thrill of being introduced to a whole new way of looking at the world.

3. “I CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT!”

Not everybody is a wall-of-sound screamer, of course. We get all kinds! The first thing some people do when they land is walk off to a spot next to the landing area, sit down, and look up at the sky with a big dreamy smile on their face. They watch the next loads land, bask in the glow, and process what they just did. We love to watch their faces.

Even if that doesn’t describe you, we know you’ll leave the dropzone deep in thought. You’ll find yourself daydreaming about it. You’ll reflect on the intensity of the fear you stared down at the beginning of the experience and how it transformed so completely into a sense of light, bubbly elation when you landed. You’ll remember what the ground looked like from the door. You’ll muse about the other wonders you’re capable of, now that you’ve proven you can do anything.

4. “SIGN ME UP TO GO AGAIN!”

Sometimes, one is not enough! Lots of folks march right back into the office and double down, utterly blown away by the experience of flying through the air with the greatest of ease. We’ve had people do several skydives in a day, in fact. We understand – heck, we’re obsessed, too!
