What skydiving says about you varies from person to person, and it depends on why you skydive in the first place! Skydiving is a uniquely awesome sport because the possibilities of what you can achieve through it are endless.

Did you go skydiving for the thrill? Then skydiving says you enjoy excitement! Did you solely go to answer the question, “What does skydiving feel like?” You must be a curious person who isn’t afraid to try new things.

Whatever the reason behind embarking on your skydiving adventure, we can assure that you’ll discover more about yourself than you could ever imagine!

You fully embrace the unknown

What is skydiving like? Let us set the scene: it’s the day of your first skydive – woo!!! You get in your car, drive to the dropzone, and are greeted by a bunch of super nice people you’ve never seen before. You sign a waiver, have a briefing, meet your instructor, and gear up.

After this, you snap some sick pics, board the aircraft, and then you will most likely utter a more colorful variation of, “Holy moly, I’m in an airplane with the door wide open!!!!!” You jump from the plane, zip through the sky at terminal velocity, peacefully glide down under the parachute, and embrace sweet Mother Earth (and all your friends)!

What do all of these little things have in common? They’re all new. Someone who skydives welcomes the unknowns of this world with wide open arms, delights in having new experiences, and lives for creating unforgettable memories by pursuing lots of firsts!

You like to test your limits

Skydivers are the living, breathing, epitome of hard work paying off. Everyone’s “hard” will be different. It’s possible you have a little bit of social anxiety (don’t we all!?) and find it difficult to get yourself to the dropzone.

Or maybe you dived into the journey to become a solo licensed skydiver (GET ITTT!!!!) and you are working on mastering new skills to be a safe and competent jumper.

Whatever it is, people who skydive don’t give up. They push their limits on every single skydive while accepting constructive criticism on the ground. No quitters here!

Thrive in community

Skydiving New York

Many people don’t realize how global the sport of skydiving is. That’s right, people all over the world like to jump out of perfectly good airplanes for fun!

It’s common to travel stateside and across international borders to experience other dropzones, attend competitions, receive coaching, and simply meet our broader sky family!

Whether you consider yourself to be an introvert, extrovert, extroverted-introvert, or whatever, you’re welcome in the skydiving community. We’re people who follow the Golden Rule of treating others the way we would want to be treated and putting them before ourselves — in the sky and on the ground.

Stress is exhilarating, not scary

Someone who skydives will view stressful situations as a challenge to overcome rather than something to run from. It’s important to understand that going skydiving involves risk, but a tremendously calculated one.

Like any extreme sport, skydiving has its what-ifs. What if the door gets stuck when I’m trying to open it? What if someone cuts me off while I’m about to land? Seriously, the possibilities of unforeseen circumstances, just like in life, are endless.

A skydiver will be confident in their training and ability to conquer any situation thrown at them. Classic attributes of a skydiver include the ability to keep a level head, adapt to various quickly-changing situations, and maintain supreme situational awareness.

You understand what life is all about

What to wear on hand while skydiving

Life is short! Or, maybe kinda long. The beauty of it is that we don’t really know when we’ll be called away from this earth. Quite frankly – none of us are making it outta here alive! This is why it’s so critical to live in the moment as best we can.

Obviously, there are responsibilities we have to check off to be a functioning member of society (sigh), but we know that beyond all these mundane activities there’s something greater out there.

Skydivers understand the significance of spending time with those we love and who love us, putting ourselves out there, and honestly just doing the dang thing. Our vote is to say YES to more happy moments! As cheesy as it may sound, skydivers can sense the dire consequences of not living their lives to the fullest every day and they do everything possible to beat the ticking clock!

So, are skydivers crazy?

If we haven’t convinced you how amazing those who skydive are, let us debunk a very common myth: skydivers are crazy adrenaline junkies ready to bite the dust at any given moment. False!

Skydivers are actually some of the most life-loving people. Skydivers are objectively “normal” people (whatever that means!) with “regular” jobs and aspirations, just like everyone else. We’re passionate about learning to excel at new skills and sharing our knowledge with others, all while practicing extreme humility. Simply said, skydivers aren’t crazy, we’re freakin’ awesome!
