Every year it's like clockwork, from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The Hamptons shrug off the chilly season and launch into their well-established role: the see-and-be-seen summer getaway for wealthy New Yorkers, television celebrities and the not-so-rich-or-famous that like to hang out around them. It's a world of "cottages" that only a Forbes Lister could get a mortgage for and a total lack of available restaurant reservations. Aftermarket parts and chemically-enhanced tans cover all the lounge chairs; everyone is always at least a little drunk; frazzled assistants crowd the shaded periphery, babbling into their Blueteeth. The traffic? Oh. It's bad.
What if we told you there was a better way to visit the Hamptons than to sign up for that madness?
'Cause there is. Join us for a skydive!
It's something of a secret, but Long Island Skydiving has been the secret indulgence of New Yorkers for a long time. Thousands of our guests over 14 years have joined us to blow off steam and get the heck away from the pedigree-dog-and-thoroughbred-pony-show on the ground.
Need to be talked in? No problem. Here are a couple of things you might not know about our local Prada-draped beach communities.
The Hamptons Are Surprisingly Easy To Get To.
Don't have a chopper to pick you up at daddy's helipad? No worries at all. Trains leave from New York Penn Station, and the trip takes about an hour and a half. The station is right at our door, as a matter of fact.
If you're not in the mood to brave the trains, you can take the Hampton Jitney (a coach service that makes the trip from Manhattan). You're welcome to drive, of course...but y'know. Traffic. In the summer, it's not worth the PTSD.
It's Really, Really Pretty From Above.
There's a reason we picked this crazy place to be our skydiving home: it's knock-down, drag-out, drop-dead gorgeous. It's spectacular.
The view from freefall out here? Massive. It spreads out the twinkling Long Island Sound, the mad knitwork of garden-wrapped mansions, the endless blue carpet of the ocean and the proud skyline of the city, unfurling out below you like an enormous treasure map.
C'mon. Check it out with us. No one is there for the beach anyway.
